Dato’ Chang Eng Thuan DSPN, JMN, KMN, AMN, PIS , has 37 years experience in analytical chemistry. He was the Director-General of Chemistry Malaysia from August 1999 to September 2002.
Dato’ Chang Eng Thuan holds a Bsc (Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Malaya (1969). He had attended the advanced training programme in analytical chemistry and microbiology at the Laboratory of the Government Chemist, London, Mycotoxins analysis in the Tropical Product Institute, London and forensic science training at the,Metropolitan Police Forensic Laboratories, New Scotland Yard, London.
He has been bestowed Chartered Scientist ‘Csci’ of the British Science Council. He is also a Chartered Chemist’ Cchem’ and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry ‘FRSC’, United Kingdom as well as a Fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry ‘FMIC’. In recognition of his distinct contribution to the profession of chemistry in Malaysia, Malaysian Institute of Chemistry bestowed on him the Gold Medal in 2000 which is the highest award that the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry can bestow on a person in the profession of chemistry.
He is presently the Chairman of the Industrial Standards Committee on Chemicals and Materials, SIRIM Berhad and a member of the Advisory Board of Moody International Certification (M) Sdn Bhd. He is a Council member of the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry and the Chairman of its Investigation Committee and Task Force Committee. He was the Registrer of the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry from 1999 to 2002. He had also represented Malaysia as a Narcotics Expert in many of the United Nations Narcotics Expert Group Meetings.
In 1998, he was the Chairman of the panel of judges for Innovation contest of the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment.
During his tenure as the Director-General of Chemistry, the Department of Chemistry became the first Federal Department to be awarded the Prime Minister’s Quality Award (2001) which is the highest quality award in Malaysia.
He has published many papers on Toxicology and Traditional Chinese Medicines in both local and international journals and chemical conferences.
His present R & D work include the application of UV technology in air and water purification and secondary industrial effluent treatment and biotechnology cultivation of cordyceps.
He is currently a consultant in two Malaysian companies.
With his long years of experience in analytical chemistry in the Department of Chemistry Malaysia,his role in QA/QC of the cultivated cordyceps and its products through chemical and microbiological analysis can not be overstated.

Dato’ Dr. Gan Ee Kiang, obtained his Ph.D degree in Pharmacology from University of Western Australia in 1972. He joined Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) as a Lecturer and became a Professor in 1990 and served as Dean of School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at USM from 1979 – 1995. During his tenure as a Dean, he was instrumental in setting up three new centres at USM; Drug Research Centre, National Poison Centre and National Doping Control Centre. He has published 2 books, over 100 scientific/professional publications and is a co-inventor of 2 patented inventions. He was appointed, on three occasions, as WHO temporary advisor and was an invited speaker at various professional meetings in USA, Europe and Asia. He is the first Malaysian to be invited to serve as a member on the International Health Advisory Panel of the United States Pharmacopoeia Convention (USP) from 1990-1995. He had served on numerous national bodies and corporations, and had been a panel member for the National Panel for Best Inventor Award MOSTE (Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation) for almost 10 years. He is active in community services and sits on the Board of Directors of several limited companies and had been consultant to several venture capital companies.
